innoviva UG (haftungsbeschränkt) was founded in 2018 by Lena and Christiane and is based in beautiful Düsseldorf. This is where the development and distribution of their own breath testers takes place. The first product of innoviva is the LactoLevel - a mobile spiroergometer for the ambitious individual athlete or clubs and sports groups.

The two founders have been working together since 2013 on the dream of founding their own company in NRW. The path from the Institute of Materials Science and Physics of the Heinrich-Heine-University Düsseldorf to the ENT clinic of Prof. Dr. Dr. Jörg Schipper of the University Hospital Düsseldorf led from there. The spin-off project, started under the name innoMMT, was originally concerned with the development of a breath tester for medical diagnostics. For strategic reasons, the company was converted into innoviva and the first product focus changed from medicine to healthcare. At the same time, preparations are being made to enter the field of medical technology with innoMMT GbR.

On the way, the team was able to win numerous supporters and network partners for itself, without whom it could not have come this far. Therefore we would like to express our sincere thanks to them:

Heinrich-Heine-Universität Düsseldorf,

ENT-Clinic of the University Clinic of Düsseldorf, especially with Prof. Dr. Dr. Schipper, where we were allowed to realize our EFRE.NRW project innoMMT,

Digihub Düsseldorf, in whose fabulous Ignition program we were allowed to stay and got a lot of valuable input

and the Gesellschaft der Freunde und Förderer der Universität Düsseldorf who supported us with her start-up scholarship.

Lena Ehrenpreis,
M. Sc. Medical Physics,
Respiratory gas sensors, measurement and control technology and hardware development

Her system design knowledge in the field of sensor systems was built up by Lena during her bachelor and master thesis about the design, construction, automation and commissioning of various systems. She wrote both theses at the Institute of Materials Science, where she also collaborated with Christiane Schüle. It was during this time that they came up with the idea of setting up a joint company. So she stayed at the institute during her master's studies in order to further advance the spin-off from the university. As part of the EFRE.NRW project at Düsseldorf University Hospital, she was employed as a research assistant and is now managing director of innoviva UG together with Christiane.

Christiane Schüle,
Dipl.-Chem. Dipl.-Wirt. Chem.,
Business Development, QM, Contracts, Patents and Regulation

After studying chemistry and business chemistry, Christiane worked at Henkel's Corporate Research and New Business department. Since then, she is building bridges between research and industry. During her time at Henkel she established a corporate start-up in the nanotechnology sector (dental repair active ingredient). In this context, she gained broad knowledge in the field of medical device regulation and quality management. Following her transfer to the Materials Science Institute of the HHU, the foundation was laid in sensor research for the spin-off, including two patent applications for hydrogen sensors and analysis of their areas of application in medical technology.
